Plugs — Erika Gable
L.A. food and drink recs from a restaurant PR powerhouse
Plugs is The Angel’s recs column. Every Saturday, you’ll get six picks — a restaurant, a bar, a shop, an ingredient, a person, and a treat — from someone in Los Angeles who knows what they’re talking about. (Plugs are for paid subscribers of The Angel only. However, if you’re in the restaurant industry and want a free subscription, hit me up. :))
#9 is Erika Gable, the managing director of the public relations firm and creative agency The Door. Since moving to L.A. a decade ago, Erika has overseen countless openings, collaborations, launches, and events, from the Julia Child documentary Julia (2021) to Nomadica wine’s recent ”skin contact” campaign. On a regular basis, she has her fingers in the inner workings of several buzzy hospitality groups, including Call Mom (La Dolce Vita, Genghis Cohen, The Spare Room), Last Word (Barras Santos, Queen St., Found Oyster), and Companion (Bell’s, Bar Le Cote, Priedite Barbecue). All this is to say: she eats and drinks well, and knows what’s up. Here are her L.A. plugs.
Restaurant — Found Oyster
My job entails dining out frequently, so I try to cook a fair amount when I have a night off. That being said, if I’m having an impromptu date night, have friends visiting from out of town, or it’s just a random Tuesday and I need a serotonin boost, you’ll find me at Found Oyster. After a glass of something sparkling, insanely fresh oysters, and their addictive fries with sake lees mayo, it’s impossible to not leave in a better mood than the one you arrived in. The staff is friendly and not overbearing, and it’s just my ideal restaurant. Oh, and you can’t leave without a slice of Fat + Flour’s key lime pie. I don’t make the rules.
